Our young scientists tested water quality during the Science on Saturday program! Water was collected from various places around the school, Nippersink Creek, and snow banks. After testing these samples, the scientists swept a section of the parking lot, added water to dissolve any chemicals in what was collected, and then tested it. Hint...the salt was off the charts! When the snow-ice melts, the salt is left behind to wash into the drain. This water is never filtered and eventually makes its way to the creek. The scientists brain-stormed ways to improve this for the environment then made t-shirts supporting water conservation. Our last session is on Saturday, February 24th from 10-11:30am at Brookwood Middle School - door 5 For more information contact Mrs. Kanthack at MaryEllen.Kanthack@gcj2.k12.wi.us

Hello Heart Heroes: Kids’ Heart Challenge is coming to an end. Registrations and donations are due tomorrow! Please remember to make your final online donations. Make one more push for donations tonight and ask donors if their companies match donations. We only need 8 more students to register in order to get our school an extra $500 in recess and P.E. equipment. We've been having a blast getting healthier and helping kids with special hearts! http://www2.heart.org/goto/BrookwoodElementarySchoolGenoaCityWI1 If you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Brenek through seesaw or at briana.brenek@gcj2.k12.wi.us

In a joint effort by music and physical education, the BES students participated in a cardio drumming unit. Students learned the rhythmic aspects of the songs in both classes while also working out. Favorites of the students include Starships, Funkytown, and The Wellerman. Students also learned a little about the history of The Wellerman, a song that became especially famous after it was posted on Tic Tok during the pandemic. This is a unit that is especially fun for students and teachers alike. Our 2nd and 3rd graders were then able to put on a special performance for the rest of our elementary students! We hope you enjoy this recording of their performances: https://youtu.be/ADWQf4i565I

Third grade wrapped up their study on magnetic forces by using a magnet and ball bearing to create artwork. The magnetic field passing through the plate allowed the students to move the paint around using only the ball bearing. Moving slow and steady, Brookwood blue masterpieces were brought to life!

Thanks to the Village of Genoa City, Brookwood students, and volunteers -- the 1st Annual School Forest Night Hike was a success! Families and individuals enjoyed the forest slightly lit up by recycled luminaries that were decorated by the students. At the end of the hike -- on the Tom Holden Trail was hot cocoa, snacks, and a warm fire! A few families took advantage of the park's playground as well! The forest was beautiful and the company was even better! We hope to see more people next year!

Students in Ms. Mohr's 7th grade social studies class have been learning about the Revolutionary War. Ms. Mohr paired up with Mr. Guth to create an active game in the gym where spies ran across the gym -- trying not to get caught -- so they could deliver a coded message regarding the war. Can you decode the messages?

Throughout the month of January, 3rd grade guidance classes spent the month learning about acceptance. The first two weeks they focused on differences/similarities, prejudice, stereotypes, discrimination, fair/unfair and inclusion and the second two weeks students were immersed in disability awareness activities with a focus on acceptance and inclusion. They learned about braille, how to write their names in braille and were introduced to wheelchair basketball; They learned about physical, visual, speech and auditory impairments autism, adhd/depression/anxiety as well as cognitive and learning differences. To conclude the disability awareness portion, students really enjoyed having a guest speaker who came in and taught them about service dogs, how service dogs help support people who have medical issues or different types of disabilities, what they do to help, their training and what to do (or not do) if you see a service dog.

The District is truly thankful for support of our families and community. Earlier this week, a group of volunteers on the community Readiness Team joined to work as a part of the Design Team on compiling the beginning looks to our Portrait of a Mustang. The work is going to be brought back to the students and staff for feedback and edits to ensure all parties have a say in this work to ensure all Mustangs are career, community,…life ready.
