The Genoa City School District would like to thank all of our families, community members, and Brookwood staff for their contributions in making our Fall Festival a success. We are excited to share with you that not only are we accepting clipped box tops but also scanned ones as well!! Miss Flood's class read a book called "The Kindness Quilt" by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. The students in the story decided to perform acts of kindness for others in their home, neighborhood or community. They drew pictures and wrote about their kind acts and made their pictures into a kindness quilt. The students decided to have their own kindness challenge in Room 107. You can see their quilt hanging in their classroom window. Miss Flood’s class will be letting other classes know about true kindness challenge and challenge them to do the same. BES: Mix it up at lunch day – As a way to teach tolerance, Brookwood Elementary School will be participating in the international Mix It Up at lunch Campaign. Students consistently identify the cafeteria as a place in their school where divisions are clearly—and harshly—drawn. So we ask students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch. Students will randomly draw a colored card from a box and will sit at the matching table. Students in our kindergarten and first grade classrooms have been working with Ms. Stanely on a multi-sensory approach to handwriting. Students learn proper letter formation through visual cues, verbal cues, and tactile practice. Our students make us #MustangProud with their hard work and progress! #BrookwoodsBest

Students in Mrs. Conrardy’s 4K class were engaged in four different focus areas during centers this week! The four centers included pumpkin investigation, building, and two dramatic play areas (kitchen and ice cream truck)! In the pumpkin investigation, students made observations while picking out seeds (using our fine motor skills) and playing in the pumpkin pulp. They learned about the different parts of a pumpkin (seeds, pulp, rind, and stem) and discussed how using our five senses is important during an investigation. In the other three centers, students engaged in social interaction. It is during this time that students learn to problem solve and resolve conflict all while pretending to cook or set a table and also build a structure while work at the ice cream truck. Students demonstrate understanding of rules during this time as well. Students work on taking turns, sharing and working together. These activities help to build a classroom community. #BrookwoodsBest

Our Director of Pupil Services, Julia Garczynski, is excited to let our families know that Brookwood Schools is partnering with PSG to offer our students and families school-based mental health services. These services can benefit students who may be in need of additional support to work through social or emotional concerns. PSG staff members will be on site in our school buildings to provide counseling for individuals or families. In addition, PSG will be working with school staff to help them expand their strategies for working with students in their classrooms. All providers are licensed by the State of Wisconsin and are trained in Trauma Informed Care. Brookwood Schools are committed to removing barriers so that our students have every opportunity to have their needs met and to succeed in our community and beyond. Referrals can be made through our school counselors. If you are interested in your child receiving these services, please contact either Kalyn Obry (BMS) or April Fitzsimmons (BES). #BrookwoodsBest

Thank you to UW-Extension Walworth County for coming out to work with our staff on helping us become more aware of the issues of poverty. A special shout out to Amanda and Mary for spending the morning with us and running the simulation and a HUGE shout out to all of our volunteers that came out as well!! We are truly lucky to have the community members that we do. Poverty is prevalent all over the world and we are fortunate to get this opportunity as a staff to be a part of this poverty simulation to help us to dispel the myths of poverty and increase empathy and understanding. #BrookwoodsBest

Happy School Board Week!! The School Board meets every third Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Brookwood Middle School Library. These are public meetings and your attendance is always welcome! This month is an exception: On October 28th, our Board will have their regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. and then their Annual Meeting to approve the budget and levy beginning at 6:30 p.m.. #BrookwoodsBest

Both of our Brookwood Schools are in search of volunteers for Thursday and Friday of next week while we host our Muffins with Mom event. On Thursday, we are looking for anyone who is available for muffin pick-up and also to set-up for the event at each school. On Friday, we are looking for anyone who is NOT a special guest for Muffins with Mom to help during the event.
