Our BES students will be kicking off this year’s Kids Heart Challenge! Alongside this year’s heart heroes, they will be learning about healthy hearts and life lessons like getting active, asking for help, resting well and being kind.
At this years' kickoff, on Monday at BES, Ms. Lisa from the American Heart Association will be joining us as well. She will be raffling off some really awesome items to students who have already registered or completed Finn's Mission!
BONUS: your student will get a free wristband for joining at http://www2.heart.org/goto/BrookwoodElementarySchoolGenoaCityWI1 or using the AHA Schools app. The Kids Heart Challenge will be running through February 16th, 2024.

The 8th-grade leadership students' final activity for the semester was a mini kindness assembly for the 5th-graders. It has been a work in progress and they finally had a chance to execute it. The assembly started with our famous 3-in-a-boat grouping and get-to-know-you activity. Next, they discussed why they felt putting on such an assembly was important. One area of discussion involved conflict vs bullying. Everyone has a conflict at some point. Conflicts can be discussed and resolved. The intention is not to hurt someone. Bullying is intentional and hurtful. The students showed a movie they made that illustrated different types of bullying. The leadership students also did a tug-of-war demonstration that showed how everyone can work together to stop bullying. Together, kindness can prevail!! A final activity was the snowball fight of kindness. The kids wrote down something kind they could do for others and then they got to throw them and find someone else's snowball. It was such a great final activity for this group of 8th graders. We are so proud of all that they have accomplished this semester!!

The 6th graders had a fantastic Spanish-speaking country folk fair. They researched a country, created a large poster alluring people to come to see their country, made a slide show filled with rich pictures from their country, and offered special treats that represented the country. Some of those treats were food, bracelets, and even face-painted flags. The fifth graders were invited to come around and learn about the Spanish-speaking countries. They walked around with passports that got signed after they answered specific questions about the presentations. It is always fun when students can learn from each other.

What a beautiful winter day for a trip to the forest! Our 4K - 4th grade naturalists were able to spend almost 2 hours snow shoeing, bushwhacking (exploring the forest off trail), learning
about ice fishing, and touching mounted North American forest animals. Forts were made, snowmen were camouflaged, trees were climbed, bears were stroked, and smiles were everywhere. After hot chocolate and granola bar snacks at the warming station, the milk jugs to be used as luminaries for the night hike were decorated and bagged. Their adventure in the school forest had a little something for everyone, especially fun! We hope to see you at the school forest for the family night hike on Saturday, February 3rd for 4-8 pm.
