Brookwood Middle School

Our 6th-grade students recently hosted an exciting Spanish-Speaking Country Folk Fair, where they immersed themselves and others in the cultures of various Spanish-speaking countries. Each student created a colorful and informative project board highlighting a specific country's traditions, geography, and cultural significance. To bring the experience to life, they prepared authentic dishes representing their chosen countries, giving the visiting 5th graders a delicious taste of diverse flavors. This interactive event allowed students to connect with and celebrate Hispanic cultures while sharing their learning with younger peers in a fun and engaging way. It was a fantastic opportunity for all involved to broaden their perspectives and appreciate the richness of these cultures!

The BMS Winter Concert is coming up on Tuesday, December 10 at 6:30 pm. The 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade BANDS and the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade CHOIR will perform. We welcome all family and the community members to attend as this event will not be live streamed. Please contact your student's music teacher with any questions. We hope to see you there!

Sharing Your Greatness! Hailey recently won 1st place at a Equestrian competition!! Ever since she was a little kid she has always had a secret passion for working with horses and was given the nickname of “horse whisperer” by her grandmother. Her mother had found a stable called Pistakee Bay Stable where Hailey was able to train with a beautiful but sassy horse named Ikra. She is thankful for her instructor Peter who continued to work with her and Ikra to compete in their first competition on October 20th where they won a first place ribbon. Congrats, Hailey — way to make us #MustangProud!!! 


Students in 7/8th grade robotics are working on completing various different robotics challenges. Some students are working on the Godzilla challenge, where they need to build and program a robot to knock down as many skyscrapers as possible in 2 minutes. Other students are working on completing Mars rover scenario maps. Each map has a different objective that requires students to build and program a robot to complete that specific map objective. Finally, some students are working on a drag race challenge. They need to use gearing to build and program a robot to drive a 30 foot distance in the shortest time possible. Each project requires students to design, build, and program a robot to complete that specific objective. Problem solving and creative thinking are needed to build and program a successful robot.

5th grade students have been working hard to write their own science fiction stories. Last week, they had some help from the 8th graders! Two of Ms. Metcalf's Language Arts classes offered their expertise on improving the stories and proofreading! This was a big help to the 5th graders! It was great to see such positive and genuine collaboration happening across the grade levels!

All Veterans are invited to Brookwood Middle School for a Veterans Day Program celebration on November 11th, beginning at 9:30am. We are truly thankful of all of our Veterans and their service.

Join Us for the Fall Frenzy on November 7th! 🎉 The Student Council invites all 4th and 5th grade Brookwood Middle School students to our Fall Frenzy, a fun-filled evening of activities, games, and more! 🗓️ When: 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. 💲 Cost: $5 per person (includes a snack and beverage) OR bring a new box of cereal for our Loaves and Fishes food pantry, and pay just $3! On Wednesday, November 6th, there will be a Forensics Informational Meeting for Brookwood Middle School students in the music room from 2:45 - 3:30. Students 4th - 8th grade are invited to participate. There are 14 categories students may compete in. Students may compete individually or in small groups; some categories allow for music and technology! There are three Saturday meets, beginning January 18th. Students who are involved in sports or other activities which may conflict with our practices may still compete. See Ms. Bullock for more information.

A message from our Brookwood PTO: Don’t forget—Turkey Trot forms are due back at school by this Friday, November 1st! Let’s get ready to run, have fun, and maybe even gobble up some goodies!

Yesterday, our 5th & 6th graders traveled to the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL to attend a live musical performance titled Frida Kahlo and The Bravest Girl in the World. This was a 45-minute operetta sung in English and Spanish. Students learned about this performance in music class. For many of our students, this was their first time attending an opera!

We love seeing all the artwork throughout our buildings at this time of year, but what becomes an annual tradition that is showcased that really “brings us back” are these beautiful clay pieces of artwork in each building…pumpkins at the elementary school and fall leaves at the middle school.

What an exciting afternoon at both schools!!! Thank you to our Brookwood PTO for leading in coin wars at both schools this year!!! Congrats to our winning grade levels: 1st grade for BES and 4th grade for BMS!!! Thank you to all those that donated!!! As the winning classes, students from those grade levels got to duck tape their principal to the wall!!!
