HUGE thank you to the Brookwood Family Organization —-PTO for the festive decorations and set up this morning to kick off Teacher Apprecaition Week. Thank you to all the families that donated and brought in treats for us today!!! We truly do have the best staff in the Midwest!!!

Personal Finance is an elective open to 7th and 8th graders at Brookwood Middle School. One of the students' favorite days is when Miss Julee from the Genoa City Public Library visits. It doesn't take long for the students to realize what the library has to do with personal finance: everything is free! What many do not realize is that in addition to books and DVD's, the library offers many other services and interesting things to borrow. Some of the products we checked out included games for a variety of systems, a bluetooth record player, a reading pen, a STEAM kit for older students, a cool cake pan, and a puzzle table with puzzles. After school, students can even access a live tutor for help with their homework through the library website. The students always have a great time checking out the cool things Miss Julee brings! The library is open to everyone; you just need a library card. If you do not have one, they will be happy to help you out!

Even though the weather was warm this week, students in Mrs. Garrett's 7th/8th grade 3D Art Elective were excited to have hot cocoa. That's because students have been working on hand building their own personalized mugs for over a month and now that they are finally finished, it was time to test them out! Students learned how to roll a slab of clay, score and slip a handle onto their mug, and use the additive method to attach pieces to create a custom design. Once the mugs were fired, the students used glaze to add color and make them food safe. The students did an amazing job making detailed and personalized works of art that hopefully they will enjoy for years to come!

School nutrition employees must balance many roles and follow numerous federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals are available in schools. School Lunch Hero Day provides the opportunity for the community to thank these hard-working heroes. Federal nutrition standards ensure that school cafeterias always offer low-fat or fat-free milk, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. School meals also meet limits on calories, sodium and unhealthy fats. The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day.
Nutritious meals at school are an essential part of the school day. The staff of the Lake Geneva Schools food service team are committed to providing healthful, nutritious meals to the District’s children; and the men and women who prepare and serve school meals help nurture our children through their daily interaction and support.
Lake Geneva Schools and GCJ2 expresses its deep appreciation to these valuable employees and commends their good work on behalf of children.
